Virtually unknown in early 2013, Lorde closed out 2013 with record breaking singles in multiple countries, one of the hottest albums of 2013 and four Grammy nominations for: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance for "Royals" and Best Pop Vocal Album for Pure Heroine.
The complicated task of translating the drum sounds from album ‘Pure Heroine’ to the live arena fell to Ben Barter, a seasoned drummer and native of New Zealand.
Ben has been with Lorde for every live performance during 2013, including appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Ellen, Good Morning America, and Letterman. His roadwork with Lorde has also included tours of the UK, US, Europe and Australia. Ben was given the unique challenge of translating the dynamic sounds of Lorde’s album into a live setting. Ben grew up playing in bands Kingston, The Wyld and Kidz In Space and was taught by NZ heavyweight Michael Franklin Brown through high school. His influences range from J Dilla to Charlie Watts.
