Eddie Bayers, born in Pautaxant River, Maryland, began his musical journey as a classical pianist. It was during his college years in California when he began jamming with local musicians, including Jerry Garcia and Tom and John Fogerty, that his musical interests took a turn. Through Tom he became involved with studio work, and after hearing good reports about the music community in Nashville, he soon left California. As Eddie recalls, "You could still do well in the movie soundtrack end, but for the commercial side of music, it looked like Nashville was the place where it was going to happen." His first Nashville gig was as a piano player in a quartet with drummer Larrie Londin. It was Larrie that inspired Eddie to play drums professionally.
Establishing himself in Nashville as one of the top studio drummers, Eddie has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Vince Gill, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Steve Winwood, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, Sting, Mark Knopfler, Trisha Yearwood, Garth Brooks, and Kenny Chesney to name a few. Playing on hundreds of gold and platinum albums and numerous movie soundtracks, Eddie has won Music Row Magazine's "Top Ten" award numerous times for playing on the most top ten Country albums in Billboard magazine, Modern Drummer Magazine put him into the Honor Roll for winning the reader's poll 5 years in a row, Drum! Magazine listed him as one of the "Top Ten Greatest Session Drummers of all Time," and he won the Academy of Country Music "Drummer of the Year" 13 years, 11 consecutive. Eddie is a graduate of Leadership Music's first class and was elected to the NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) Board of Governors 6 times, currently elected to serve again for the 2007/2009 term.
"Since my playing situation changes almost daily, I demand a lot of versatility from my cymbals. My Workhorse is my 18" K Crash Ride. I can do everything with it, like lots of crashing and riding the bell." Eddie's newest love are his 14" A Zildjian Mastersound Hi Hats. "Every engineer has flipped out over these Hats" says Eddie.
