Will Berman joined MGMT in March 2008. The group was founded by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. Formed at Wesleyan University and originally with Cantora Records, they signed with Columbia Records and Red Ink in 2006. They have released four albums; Oracular Spectacular (released in January 2008), Metanoia (released August 19, 2008), Congratulations (released April 2010).
On October 5, 2007, Spin.com named MGMT "Artist of the Day".On November 14, 2007, Rolling Stone pegged MGMT as a top 10 "Artist to Watch" in 2008.The band was named 9th in the BBC's Sound of 2008 top 10 poll. They were also named as Last.fm's most played artist of 2008 in their Best of 2008 lists.
MGMT has been recruited to play major festivals around the world, from Bonnaroo, Coachella, SXSW and Lollapalooza to Glastonbury, Roskilde, Reading and Leeds. They have found themselves opening for the likes of Radiohead, M.I.A., Beck and, by special request, Paul McCartney, who loudly championed MGMT and asked them to open for him during his concerts at Boston's Fenway Park in August 2009.
The group is currently on their first Asian tour which began February 2011 in Japan, they will then continue performing in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and South Korea.
