Michael Doran studied at the Royal Academy of Music under James Blades and Nicholas Cole. Less than a year after leaving he was appointed Principal Percussion of the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet Orchestra (now the Royal Ballet Sinfonia). He moved to English National Opera as Co-Principal 3 years later, and in 1996 became Principal, a position he still holds.
He performs regularly with all the country's senior orchestras and plays on many major film soundtracks. Mr. Doran has performed at such special occasions as The Queen's Golden Jubilee Service in St.Paul's, the West End Shows and is frequently involved in, and has created, education and community music projects. Michael also plays drums in a jazz quartet and teaches at the Trinity College of Music. He also is one half of a song writing duo and has been orchestra manager for Camerata Ireland. Michael also teaches privately and has appeared on Top of the Pops. He was honored to be made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 1997.
