Zach Danziger is on the cutting edge of today's music and is one of the hottest players leading a movement that has broad implications for modern drum set playing. In the mid-90’s, he began exploring a new musical genre out of the UK that was just taking hold in New York City clubs. "I was in a rut musically," Zach says. "But when my friend Ken Micallef gave me a compilation cassette of some drum 'n' bass stuff, I went nuts for it." Zach formed the group Boomish with bassist Tim Lefebvre, which pioneered a futuristic mix of electronic music and astonishing musicianship that retained its human touch. Zach's programming and uncanny ability to recreate and expand sounds in a live setting brought them into a whole other realm of contemporary music.
Around that same time, Zach teamed up with Zildjian's Sound Lab to develop the successful A Zildjian Breakbeat Ride and EFX - cymbals specifically designed for electronic music styles.
Emerging from the heart of New York, Danziger's musical expertise led him to work with a wide range of artists including Primal Scream, Busta Rhymes, U2, Wayne Krantz, David Holmes, LeBron James, Mary J. Blige, Rod Stewart, Jack Black, Mariah Carey, Luke Vibert, Sinead O’Connor, Chaka Khan, and Miley Cyrus. He has composed and played on numerous major motion picture soundtracks including Oceans 11, 12 and 13, Iron Man, Sex and the City, Night at the Museum, Little Fockers, and Transformers, and provided all of the drumming for Russell Brand's Easter bunny character in the movie Hop.
Zach is currently involved with the group, Mister Barrington, which features former Roots bassist Owen Biddle and keyboardist Oli Rockberger. Zach notes that “with the perception that live electronic music performances are confined to a ‘just push play’ mentality, Mister Barrington’s mission is to keep searching for ways to use technology in an organic manner to further improvisation and group-interplay possibilities.”
Zach's drumming and production skills have been featured in numerous publications including Modern Drummer, Electronic Musician, The New York Times, and CNN. It is clear that he will continue to challenge traditional music making methods in the interest of advancing music. Zach is not only a cutting edge player but also a true musical innovator.
