One of the true all time giants of Jazz Drumming, Al has played on countless classic recordings and with numerous Jazz greats including Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner and Blue Mitchell. He is probably most well known for his musical partnership with the great Miles Davis, a significant musical relationship that lasted over 12 years. Foster joined Davis as the legendary Trumpeter entered the second phase of his early seventies electronic period. A period that created futuristic music that has only recently been acknowledged as visionary and way ahead of its time in its innovative and seamless melding of hypnotic grooves, world beat elements and ethnic instrumentation. Foster stayed with Miles right up to his "retirement" from the music scene in 1975 but was right there in 1981 to drive his "comeback" band that produced the memorable recordings "We Want Miles" and "Star People". Al's most recent recording is a burning Trio date on McCoy Tyner's latest CD with bassist Stanley Clarke.
