Danny Gottlieb is one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music. While best known as a founding member of the original Pat Metheny Group, (of which he was a member for 6 years) Danny, during the past 25 years has toured, performed and recorded with some of the world's greatest musicans. Danny has also recorded 4 recordings as a leader, and 9 as co-leader of Elements, a contemporary music ensemble, with bassist Mark Egan. He is featured on over 300 recordings to date, including 2 Platinum recordings and 6 Grammy Winners. He has appeared on the covers of Modern Drummer, Downbeat, Drums and Percussion, and Rhythm and Drum Scene magazines.

Danny has a BM degree in jazz performance from the University of Miami, and has been a student of legendary drummer, Joe Morello (of Dave Brubeck fame) for over 30 years. Joe himself was a student of the great snare drummers Billy Gladstone and George Lawrence Stone (author of famed drum book Stick Control.) Danny, as an instructor, continues in the educational tradition of these great masters. Danny also studied with late big band master Mel Lewis, late studio drum great Gary Chester, Bob Moses and Ed Soph.

Danny is currently an artist and residence instructor at the University of South Florida, in Tampa and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Individually and in conjunction with his wife, master percussion instructor Beth Gottlieb, Danny performers numerous workshops and percussion clinics throughout the world. In addition, Danny still finds time to perform 150 engagements and recording sessions around the world each year. Current projects include many performances worldwide with the Jeff Berlin trio, a ground breaking new group led by the legendary bassist.

New CD releases and projects include: The Contempo Trio (a recording featuring pianist Mark Soskin-who is also featured on Zildjian artist Steve Smith's new DVD-and bassist Chip Jackson;) a new trio release with guitarist Joe Beck and Mark Egan; a duo recording with bassist Mark Egan; a trio cd with pianist Jeff Laibson and bassist Mark Egan; a quintet recording with Danny, his wife Beth, Swedish pianist Per Danielsson and his wife, and saxophonist Tami, called Family of Friends; a new recording with pianist Andy Laverne; a trio recording with pianist Per Danielsson and bassist Mark Neuenschwander; a recording with arranger Chuck Owen's big band, the Surge; a new CD with the Jeff Berlin trio; a recording with saxophonist Jack Wilkins, and a new project with Danish singer / songwriter Julia Marie.
