For more than two decades, drummer, composer, educator Alex Leys has been writing, recording and performing music.
Born in Buenos Aires (Arg), Leys began to play at the age of 12. He studied music and classical percussion at the Buenos Aires Conservatory "Manuel de Falla." Then, after winning the Drums and Percussion Magazine drum off, he took lessons from Argentinean master teachers Elias Heger, Daniel Volpini and Daniel Piazzolla.
In 1998 he played at the "98 Drum Festival" and won the "Revelation Drummer" category. At only 23 years old, in 1999, Leys composed and recorded "Searches", his first solo album of compositions for solo drum set. From that moment Alex began to give clinics and solo concerts establishing himself as a Drum Solo Artist while he kept playing in jazz/fusion bands.
In 2003 he recorded "Lonely Traveller", his second CD, and toured behind it until 2005 when he traveled to Europe and played with many artists as a session player while giving private lessons.
Today, Alex Leys is an Educator/Clinician for the Zildjian Company, and the drummer for great Chapman stick player Guillermo Cides and jazz guitarist Todd Clouser, among others.
He says: "Zildjian is the perfect mix of respect for the tradition - from where the Company has the knowledge - and the innovation field where Zildjian is not afraid to take new risks."
