Hailing from the far north of Norway, way above the polar circle, Jørgen Smådal Larsen took an early interest in music and at age three he started bashing away at various furniture, pots and pans while listening to the radio. Later on he started to play in a marching band, learning rudiments and to read notes. By the time he was 13 he played in different high school bands and took lessons at the public school of music in Bodø, focusing on jazz, latin and rock drumming.
During his high school years, Jørgen recorded three albums and toured continuously across Europe and the US with underground punkrockers The Spectacle. In the same period Jørgen also did session work in local studios.
In 2007 Jørgen teamed up with the guys in the indierock band Lukestar.
Lukestar released their album Lake Toba in January 2008 and received rave reviews in both Norwegian and international media such as Pitchfork and NME. They enjoyed a combined 40 weeks of airplay on Norwegian national radio between the first three singles of Lake Toba and appeared on both national TV as well as MTV.
After touring all year, including a massive summer festival tour, two European tours and a trip to the US, Lukestar won a Norwegian Grammy award in the category "rock album of the year."
Jørgen is currently in studio working on Lukestar's new album.
Jørgen says "I feel really honored to take part of the Zildjian family of artists, joining the ranks of my favorite drummers. I really love the Zildjian K series, especially the 22" K Light Ride. It is an absolute beauty with a perfect blend of stick definition and smoky wash."
