For BMTH, it all started in Sheffield in March 2004, when these kids got together from the ashes of a collection of defunct bands and began to write music. Taking their influences from bands such as Norma Jean, The Red Chord and many of the heavier US Metalcore acts, the newly formed band soon started turning heads. Much more attention followed, building rapidly after playing shows across the UK with the likes of Zao, The Nothing, Shaped by Fate and Johnny Truant. A rabid, hungry, loyal and HUGE fan-base started to grow and their shows became busier and busier. They didn't have any boundaries or rules, they just wrote what they wanted to hear and play.
In 2005, BRING ME THE HORIZON released their astonishingly heavy debut mini album This is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For, for Thirty Days Of Night Records. The band quickly caught the attention of London's Visible Noise label, responsible for unearthing and breaking some of the UK's biggest rock and metal acts such as Lostprophets and Bullet For My Valentine. Then they played shows...and kids moshed...and they kept playing shows...and kids kept moshing...
2006 was the year everything started to fall into place for the Northern five piece. First they became one of the top 100 played acts on MySpace (them and Coldplay were the only UK acts in the top 100!!!), followed by a blistering Radio One Rock Show Session. They won BEST BRITISH NEWCOMERS at the Kerrang! awards (beating the likes of Enter Shikari and The Automatic...), toured with Lostprophets, Killswitch Engage, Aiden and Bleeding Though, performed a brutal and much talked about set at Download (biggest pit of the weekend) and were bombarded with tours for Europe and the USA. And all this from a band of 18 year olds who had only recently released their debut album!
The debut album, Count Your Blessings, released through Visible Noise in October 2006, is full of what people have already come to expect from Bring me the Horizon: massive riffs, erratic time signatures, tempo changes, immense vocals, shredding solos, blistering percussion, etc. BUT, the experience of working with producer Dan Sprigg (Lostprophets, Cradle of Filth) brought a new found maturity out of the band, a more solid direction and focus in song writing and structure. The band grew again in popularity and profile throughout 2007 and 2008 with a Stateside release of CYB supported by extensive touring, including a number of dates on Gigantour with Megadeth in Australia, a huge sold out tour in the UK (culminating in a blistering sold out show at the historic 2000 capacity London Astoria theatre), and being flown over to Russia to perform twice, all leading them to another tour of Australia and multiple European Summer festivals and most importantly a much sought after tour on the Vans Warped Tour for Summer 2008, where they quickly established themselves as THE band of the tour, praised by fans, bands and critics alike for their incendiary live show.
In April 2008, they went into the Studio Fredman in an isolated area of Sweden with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordstrom (Dimmu Borgir, At the Gates). They left with an album yet another step up from their previous work, entitled Suicide Season, a title very close to their hearts. The album shot the band into the rock stratosphere and received glittering reviews from the press ("This might be the best metal record to be released in 2008." Rock Sound).
The album was followed by tours all over the world, including a massive 3 month jaunt across the US on the RockStar Taste of Chaos Tour, captured in the recent promo for the track "Diamonds Aren't Forever." As the band prepare to head out to Japan, Russia, Indonesia and then back to Europe, the US and the UK, it seems there really is no stopping Bring me the Horizon's assault on the world's ear, and they remain one of the most popular and interesting bands to have come screaming out of the UK in years.
