Michael Petulla was born in Leeton, Australia in 1989. He began receiving professional tuition at the age of 5, having been influenced by his father, Mario.
Starting with just a set of Jazz drumsticks, which Mario had owned from one of his old bands, he learned by playing drums on pillows. Mario said if he could do that for an hour every evening for a year, he would purchase Michael his first set.
One hour’s practice every evening was then compulsory and by the age of 15, Michael began doing multiple hours of practice every day. To this day Michael still believes in strong practice and has been heavily influenced by drummers such as Virgil Donati, Stewart Copeland, Buddy Rich, and Carmine Appice.
At the age of 21, after playing in bands in Australia, Michael decided to relocate to London to further his career as a drummer.
After a successful audition with Noah And The Whale in December 2010, Michael has spent this year on the road. The band have just finished a headline U.K tour which concluded at Brixton Academy. This follows a year of touring all round the world and TV performances including The Late Show with David Letterman, Later with Jools Holland, and The Graham Norton Show. The band are about to embark on another U.S tour and already have a show at the Royal Albert Hall booked for next year.
Michael has always been a Zildjian Believer, right from the very first set of cymbals he purchased.
