Founded in 1956, Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps grew rapidly after a reorganization in 1967, and in 1974, the corps placed in the elite Top 12 at the Drum Corps International World Championships. Since 1974, the corps has never failed to reach the Top 12, and has become a perennial contender for the title. It captured the world championship in 1996 and most recently in 2008, while finishing runner-up five times in their history. The Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps is a youth organization dedicated to the development of self-esteem and self-reliance, encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, civic pride, and contributions of one’s personal best to a group effort. The members, ages 16 to 22, tour nationwide and learn to live and work together, focusing all their energies on achieving the common goal of excellence in education, entertainment and competition.
The Phantom Regiment has won numerous titles in its history, including the Drum Corps Midwest championship (nine times), DCI South, DCI Midwest and DCI North. During its history, the corps has also won the trophy for best brass, best visual, best color guard, and best general effect at the DCI World Championships.
