William Platt is a graduate of The Eastman School of Music where he was a student of William G. Street.
Former member of The U.S. Army Band in Washington, D.C. and the Symphony Orchestras of Rochester, NY and Richmond, VA.
1971 thru 2010: Principal Percussionist of the Cincinnati Symphony & Cincinnati Pops Orchestras.
During tenure in Cincinnati, recorded well over 100 CDs, mainly on the Telarc label, made several tours of the US, Europe, Japan China, Singapore, Taiwan, Canary Islands and several appearances at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico & PASIC.
Former faculty member of Ohio University and the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music.
Currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Cincinnati Symphony and a member of the Symphonic Committee of PAS, as well as a visiting instructor at the Thornton School of the Music at the University of Southern California.
Artist/Clinician for Zildjian Cymbals, Craviotto Drums, Cooperman & ProMark Sticks, Aquarian Drumheads and Hamilton Stands.
Enjoys golf, vintage drum collecting and repair, wine making, travel with wife Kazuko and the joy of 2 married children and 4 grandchildren.
