Matthew Racher fell in love with the drums listening to Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa and Nirvana when he was no more than knee high to a grasshopper. Regular blues gigs in countryside pubs in his teens and regular mind bending jams with his father (guitarist Stephen) led him to believe that rock and roll might well be the day job he was looking for. A stint at the Musicians Institute in 1998 opened his mind to technique, good time keeping and players who created their own music and he has since dedicated his time to exploring these things with dedication and love.
Rocking out in punk and rock bands such as Shatner, Citizen Zero and Scully has brought some widely varied session invitations Matthew's way, ranging from sitting in on arena shows for The Prodigy to playing the drums for Kylie Minogue's recent world tour. Over the past few years, Matthew has also been lucky enough to work with recording artists such as Judie Tzuke, Lucie Silvas, Amy Macdonlad, The Alabama 3 and 10 Men.
Currently Matthew is helping to finish the records of Bailey Tzuke (www.myspace.com/baileytzuke) and Ben Mark (www.myspace.com/benmarkmusic. Matthew uses Yamaha acoustic and electronic drums and he thinks that Tina at Zildjian is ace.
