A native Texan, Shaun began his musical studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. While completing his undergraduate studies at Rice, Shaun became a regular substitute with the Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony and the New World Symphony. After receiving a Master's degree from the University of Houston, under the tutelage of Houston Symphony Principal Percussionist: Brian Del Signore, Shaun moved to Chicago to continue his studies at DePaul University. With the guidance of faculty members Ted Atkatz and Eric Millstein, he quickly won a position with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and began substituting with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Lyric Opera of Chicago. Shaun's second year at DePaul was marked by a month-long trial as the Principal Percussionist of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur. He was also a Semi-finalist for the Principal Percussion auditions of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. In June of 2007, Shaun won the Principal Percussion audition of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
