Bruce Wallace is currently one of South Africa’s most recorded drummers. He has performed on well over three hundred albums to date, over 35 of them reaching Multi-Platinum, Platinum, or Gold status, twelve live music DVDs, and has at least 9 SAMA (South African equivalent “Grammy” awards) to his credit. Along with recording, Bruce regularly tours and performs with South Africa’s biggest selling Artists.
Bruce Wallace was born in the small town of, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He took formal tuition in drums and percussion at the age of 8. After his family immigrated to the United Kingdom, he continued his musical education in high school, playing in their orchestras, and school bands. By the age of 12 he was performing in the Northern Ireland Junior Symphony Orchestra, and by the age of 13, was performing at corporate events and various gigs in London and around Northern Ireland.
When Bruce returned to South Africa, he completed is secondary education at Pretoria Boys High School and later completed his studies at the Technikon Pretoria, where he obtained his National Diploma in Light Music.
Bruce has since worked with the “who’s who” of the South African music industry, including, The Soweto String Quartet, Mean Mr. Mustard, Teuns Jordaan, Bok Van Blerk, Steve Hofmeyer, Mango Groove, Danny K, Nianell, Eden, Juanita Du Plesis, Leanie May, Bobby Van Jaarsveld, and P J Powers to name a few.
In addition to recordings, Bruce has performed in corporate events all over the country with The Electric Pops Orchestra, The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and is a member of the 702 Radio, Solid Gold Band. Television performances include, Idols SA, Strictly Come Dancing, and a guest performance for The Jerry Springer Show.
In 2010, Bruce performed at the World Expo in Shanghai, for Chinese artist Lilly Feng.
In addition to his professional career as a session musician, Bruce does clinics and workshops, owns a recording studio, B.I.T.S (Beat In Time Studios), and has been involved in various productions for many of SA’s top selling artists.
His Live DVD performance with Juanita Du Plesis and Teuns Jordaan has reached triple platinum status, and has sold out South Africa's biggest venues like Grand west Casino (Cape town), and Carnival city (Johannesburg). It is currently the best selling music DVD in South African history.
Of his Zildjian cymbals, Bruce says, "I received my first pair of K Zildjian Hi Hats for my 11th birthday. The same pair has recorded literally hundreds of albums to date, and I’ve used Zildjian on every recording I've ever made since. The feedback I get from producers and engineers regarding my cymbal sound is so positive, I simply cannot imagine using another cymbal brand."
