Doug Yowell is a New York City based musician who began playing drums at the age of 3. His father, a Jazz saxophonist who played with Charlie Parker, led Doug to initially gravitate towards Jazz. When he turned 16, he began studying with Jazz-legend Peter Erskine.
Doug became part of the Zildjian family in 1992 as a result of working with Sophie B. Hawkins. Not long after he met Suzanne Vega's bassist Mike Visceglia, and began working as a session drummer with many of New York's finest musicians. Doug's big break happened when was asked to record on Suzanne Vega's ‘Songs in Red and Grey’ album in 2001. This led to 5 more studio albums, live DVD's, and an international touring schedule over the past 12 years. Simultaneously, David Bowie's guitarist Gerry Leonard introduced Doug to Duncan Sheik, which led to several albums, tours, movie soundtracks and the Tony Award winning Broadway play ‘Spring Awakening’.
