Born in Santiago-Chile in 1986, Ruben is currently a member of the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – OSESP. Prior to joining OSESP, he served as a Principal Percussion of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, (Brazil), Percussioni/Assistant Timpani of the Concepción Symphony Orchestra (Chile) and Timpani/Percussion of the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Chile.
He studied percussion at the University of Chile and attended the Alan Abel Percussion Seminar at Temple University. His main teachers were Patrício Hernández (University of Chile), Mario Baeza (University of Chile), Tom Freer (The Cleveland Orchestra), Christopher Lamb (New York Philharmonic) and Markus Rhoten (New York Philharmonic).
In Brazil he participated in the Campos do Jordão International Festival, Music in the Mountains Festival and Brasilia International Festival. He also participated in master classes held by Timothy Adams Jr (Georgia University), She-e Wu (Northwestern University), Mark Ford (North of Texas University), Don Liuzzi (The Philadelphia Orchestra), Alan Bor (Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) and others.
He has won the Young Talent Competition of the Concepción Symphony Orchestra and first runner up in the International Mock Audition, Pasic 2009, Indianapolis - USA.
As a soloist Rubén has played with the Concepción Symphony Orchestra (Chile), Ouro Preto Orchestra (Brazil) and Orquestra Experimental de Repertório (Brazil). As a chamber musician he has played at the Contemporary Music Festival of Habana - Cuba and numerous festivals in Chile, Argentina and Brazil. He also participated in the recording of the music for the Chilean movie "El Rey de San Gregorio".
In 2011 he was one of the few percussionists invited for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Percussion Audition.
Rubén has taught clinics and master classes at the University of Chile, Boston Conservatory, São Paulo University, São Paulo State University, Minas Gerais Federal University, Rio Grande do Norte Federal University, Espirito Santo Music University, University of Uberlandia, 5th Latin-American Percussion Festival, Academy of the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Manaus Percussion Festival, and others.
