Cymbal Options for the Drumset

by Peter Erskine

Lesson Category: Drumset
Skill Levels: Advanced, Beginner, Intermediate

The number of cymbals for a drumset can vary, though a good starting point is to always have at least a "Ride" cymbal (normally 18"-to-22" in diameter) and a "Crash" cymbal (normally 15"-19" in diameter). Hi-hat sizes are usually 13" - 15" in diameter, though a 14" diameter pair is the most common size. Specialty cymbals include variations of the "China," "Splash" and "Effect" styles; rivets can also be added to any cymbal for a "sizzle" effect.
