We are delighted to welcome Toby Dundas of The Temper Trap to our Worldwide Family of Artists.
The Temper Trap, from Melbourne, Australia, are currently on a USA/European tour before heading home to Australia for the Big Day Out Festivals, early 2010.
The band finished recording their debut album, Conditions, in London with veteran music producer Jim Abbiss in March 2009, after 4 weeks recording the bulk of the album in Melbourne in late 2008. Their song "Sweet Disposition" was featured in the tester trailer for 500 Days of Summer and is also on the movie's official soundtrack, the Australian hit TV Series "Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities" and the Season 2 Finale of Greek "At World's End." The song also is featured in a commercial for Sky Sports football featuring Jose Maourinho for Sky Sports HD in the UK, in the commercial for UK's Channel 4 Music, in the commercial for Peugeot 3008 in Scandinavia, in the UK's "Big Brother 10" Final (Best Bits) and it was also used on the Sky's cricket coverage for the end of International Season Video and promo for the AFL Grand on Channel 10 in Australia...Whooooo!!!!
The band have just received the following nominations in the 2009 ARIAs to be announced in November 2009: Best Rock Album; Breakthrough Artist - Album; Single of the Year; Album of The Year
Toby says "I have always played Zildjian cymbals, the first set I had were second hand Scimitar Bronze and they sounded great for a beginner and lasted me a long time. When the Temper Trap first started playing, I invested in a set of the A Custom Projection series, 16" crash, 17" Crash and 21" Ride and coupled these with a second hand mixed hat set of 13" A Custom on top and Z Custom on the bottom. These have lasted me the five years of the band and sound even better as they've aged. I've always dreamed of being a Zildjian Artist and to get the opportunity is amazing. The Temper Trap have just released their debut record in the UK and with shows booked through the next 12 months around the world we are planning to work incredibly hard to make this album and the band go onto bigger and better things. We hope that over time we could become a part of the long history of ground-breaking, inspirations musicians associated with Zildjian and be proud ambassadors of the brand."
Says Tina Clarke â? International Artist Relations Manager - "From the moment I heard the Temper Trap I was 'trapped' - they sounded amazing, it was no surprise to learn that the legendary UK producer Jim Abiss, who has previously produced the Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian, was at the helm...creating a brilliant, haunting sound driven by big guitars and pulsating rhythms...and thus it was obvious that the UK would welcome them to their second home with open arms. For me, it's particularly satisfying when you work with an artist who obviously loves Zildjian cymbals and has played Zildjian all of their drumming lives, from the Scimitar Bronze through to one of my favourites, the K Crash Rides, today. I'm looking forward to seeing The Temper Trap when they hit the road with Florence and The Machine (with Chris Hayden on drums) later in the year."
Toby's cymbal set-up is:
14" A Custom Mastersound Hi Hats
18" A Custom Projection Crash
22" K Custom Dark Ride
19" A Custom Projection Crash
21" K Crash Ride
Toby says "My favourite cymbal is the 22" K Custom Dark Ride. This cymbal is magic. It can cut through the mix like a knife, giving drive and definition, while it's darker overtones shimmer and swirl, especially when using mallets."
