Jeremy Branson, Assistant Principal Percussionist with the Pittsburgh Symphony, gave a masterclass for the Percussive Arts Society Pennsylvania Chapter Day of Percussion on May 1, 2010 in North Huntingdon, PA. Mr. Branson gave a highly informative look at the percussion parts to Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." Students from Duquesne University and Slippery Rock University performed the piece along with recordings from several major orchestras. Mr. Branson gave insight into the performance concerns of each section of this lengthy and challenging work followed by the performance of each section. The masterclass was quite timely in that the Pittsburgh Symphony was performing the piece that night at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. Many of the attendees of the event were treated to discount tickets to the concert that night and got to witness this major work in person. Mr. Branson provided a unique learning experience for everyone involved and offered details about the work and its' performance that can only come from the vast amounts of personal experience he possesses.
