Percussion meets electronics as Brooklyn quartet So Percussion unites with Baltimore electronica duo Matmos for a tour and a brand-new album, titled Treasure State. The six-date joint tour begins June 9 in New York City and ends June 20 in Portland, Oregon. Following the scheduled performances, Cantaloupe Music - home to fellow musical experimentalists Philip Glass and Steve Reich - will release the collaborative album on July 13.
In their live collaboration, Matmos and So Percussion will perform tweaked versions of Treasure State's songs, as well as some surprise covers. The instrumental music will blast at audiences in quadraphonic sound, rather than stereo, thanks to the additional PA the bands will bring with them on tour. Fans can preview a song from the upcoming album by heading to Cantaloupe Music's website and downloading the free track, "Treasure."
