Josss Augusto "Zeca" Lacerda was born in 1984 in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil and started his drum set studies in 1998.
In 2003, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he started his undergraduate studies (percussion performance) at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. While living in Rio de Janeiro, he was part of the percussion section of Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira Jovem (Youth Brazilian Symphony Orchestra).
In 2005, he transferred to Universidade Federal de Santa Maria where he studied with Gilmar Goulart, receiving a Bachelors degree in percussion performance in 2008.
Soon after receiving his degree, Zeca moved to Commerce, Texas where he started to pursue a masters degree in percussion performance, studying with Brian Zator in the Texas A&M University. While he was Texas, Zeca was a Graduate Assistant, teaching lessons, coaching rehearsals and helping with the duties of the studio. Still in 2008, Zeca was awarded a PAS scholarship to attend PASIC.
In 2009, Zeca Lacerda was awarded a tuition scholarship to finish his masters at the Frost School of Music, in Miami, studying with Svet Stoyanov and Matthew Strauss. He has performed with the Frost School of Musicás Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.
He has attended music festivals receiving instruction from various artists including Michael Rosen, Douglas Walter, Eduardo Leandro, Nick Petrella and Julia Gaines.
