In December, Vince Cherico toured through Cuba with the Chico O'Farrill Orchestra. While there, Zildjian contributed sets of cymbals for him to donate to the drummers of Cuba.
They did two days of master classes at The Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Centro Habana. After meeting the students and professors Maria Margarita Ponce and Augustin Gomez, Vince realized this would be the best home for the Zildjian cymbals. Famous musicians such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Julio Barretto, Paquito D'Rivera and many others are graduates of this Conservatory. The students are amazing, studying congas, bongo, timbales, drumset and bata as well as all classical percussion!
Vince says, "I am still in awe from my experience in Cuba and can't wait to return. The students and professors were so excited to receive this set of Zildjian cymbals and later that evening I saw one of their student ensembles performing as part of the Havana Jazz Festival with their new Zildjians!"
