Performing for a standing-room-only crowd at the 2011 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention drew rave reviews for Houston’s most talented junior high and middle school percussionists, known as P1-13.
Following an invitation to perform as part of a Lamar Burkhalter’s lecture/clinic to help highlight the growth benefits for public school music programs that exist through participation in independent ensembles outside of the normal classroom setting, P1-13 was also asked to perform a showcase concert for an audience of 500 music students and directors.
“The TMEA invitation was truly an honor and I am so proud of P1-13’s hard work,” said Burkhalter, founder and executive director of the nonprofit Percussion One Foundation. “I know the experience won’t be soon forgotten as we’ve been receiving rave reviews from band, choir and orchestra directors around the state.”
