Congratulations to Maria Anna Chlebus, winner of the Avedis Zildjian Percussion Scholarship for the 2012-2013 year at the Frost School of Music in Miami FL. An undergrad student, now in her second year at the University of Miami, she is a Instrumental Performance major, currently studying Percussion with Professors Svetoslav Stoyanov and Matthew Strauss.
Maria was born in Riverside, CA, but grew up in Warsaw, Poland where she spent most of her life studying music from an early age. Twelve years ago, Percussion became her main focus and has been her passion ever since.
In 2010, while attending the IV International Katarzyna Mycka Marimba Academy in Frankfurt, Germany, she met Professor Stoyanov, who invited her to study with him at the Frost School of Music. A year later she moved to the US as a scholar of the Percussion Department at the University.
Maria has participated and performed in numerous festivals, masterclasses, competitions and concerts throughout Europe and the US, and has worked with many renown musicians from all over the world; among them Pedro Carneiro (Portugal), Peter Sadlo (Austria), Gwen Burgett (US), Ayano Kataoka (Japan/US), Emmanuel Sejourne (France), Rainer Roemer (Germany), Ney Rosauro (Brasil), Libby Larsen (USA), Tom Freer (USA), David Herbert (USA) and more.
