2012 WGI Wrap Up

Zildjian sponsored units place in top 3 in all divisions

WGI has evolved and grown over the years and this year was no exception. Now celebrating their 35th anniversary, more than 11,000 participants from all over the world competed in the 2012 WGI World Championships.

Hailing from Chino Hills, CA and directed by Ian Grom and John Mapes, the Chino Hills Percussion Ensemble finished their undefeated season taking home the 1st place victory in the Percussion Scholastic World division.

In the Percussion Independent World division, the Riverside Community College Winter Drumline from Riverside, CA won top honors placing first with a score of 97.0875. The Riverside Community College Winter Drumline is led by Sean Vega, Jim Wunderlich and Mike Jackson.

An unprecedented, record-setting high score of 99.6 gave Woodbridge High School the first place medal in the Scholastic Concert World division.

From Cape Cod, Massachusetts, the Spirit of America Percussion Ensemble placed first in the Percussion Independent A division. Directed by Ian Hale, Spirit of America recently took a trip to South Africa where they learned about music and culture to better prepare themselves for their African themed performance at WGI.

3rd place – Pulse Percussion

1st place – Chino Hills HS
2nd place – Dartmouth HS

1st place – Woodbridge HS

Percussion Independent Open
3rd place – Orange County Independent Percussion

Percussion Scholastic Open
2nd place – Victor J. Andrew HS

Percussion Independent A
1st place – Spirit of America Percussion Ensemble
