All of us at Zildjian were deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of our friend Scott Johnson, this past weekend.
Scott was on the road, drum teching for Philip Selway (Radiohead) when part of the Radiohead staging collapsed on top of him during pre-show preparations in Canada.
Scott was one of the loveliest people you could ever meet, he was dedicated, a true gentleman, a passionate drummer, the kind of guy who put others before himself. We are proud to have called him a friend and work-colleague, as together we strove to provide the best possible service to the many Zildjian Artists that we worked with over the years, including Ronnie Vannucci (The Killers), Richard Hughes (Keane), Jack Lawrence-Brown (White Lies) and Philip Selway (Radiohead). Scott was a true professional and one of the best drumtechs.
At this sad time our thoughts and condolences are with Scott’s family and friends, together with the Radiohead touring crew. Of course the show will, and must, go on. Scott was living his dream and would have wanted it that way … but for everyone that loves music, particularly live music, let’s take a moment in memory of Scott to salute him and all the drumtechs and road crew around the world, whose tireless efforts behind the scenes often go unnoticed but without whom there would be no show.
Rest In Peace Scott.
