To celebrate the launch of our Sound Lab Cymbal Set-Up Builder, in October of 2013, Zildjian began a contest where one lucky Z Club Member would win their ultimate Cymbal Set Up! Of the over 2500 kits that were entered, Glen Murray (left) from Wanaka New Zealand was randomly chosen as the Grand Prize Winner!
Glen’s winning set-up consisted of a 19” A Zildjian Thin Crash, a 20” A Zildjian Thin Crash, 16” K EFX, a pair of 15” K Light HiHats and a 22” K Dark Medium Ride.
Assisting in the delivery of his cymbal prize was Zildjian’s Distribution Company in New Zealand, The Rockshops. Glen lives in a beautiful, but very remote part of New Zealand, and the nearest store to him was located in Dunedin, about a 3.5 hours drive away. Insisting on the personal touch, Rockshops enlisted Timothy Greenslade (right), from the Dunedin store, who made the trip to hand deliver the cymbals to Glen on behalf of Zildjian. They ended up talking for a couple of hours about music, drums, cymbals and taking lots of photos, before Timothy headed back. Glen was over the moon and very thankful for everyone’s involvement in making this happen.
After receiving his prize, we got the following note from Glen: “Today was the day I got to try out my new cymbals!! Thank you so much. They sound incredible! Especially the K Dark Medium Ride; think I played 5+ minutes of straight 1/4 notes…it sounds that good!!!! Thanks again to all the team at Zildjian; you guys make great instruments and it's a dream come true to win such an awesome bunch of cymbals.”
The Zildjian team wishes to thank Hamish Jackson, Torey Legget, Timothy Greenslade and all at Rockshops New Zealand for their help in making this such a special occasion for Glen.
Other weekly winners in our Twitter #MyZildjianSetUp drawing, leading up to the final grand-prize draw were Kenneth Sporsheim of Oslo, Norway, who chose a 21” A Zildjian Sweet Ride as his prize. A big thank you to Niklas Tarnham at Zildjian’s Distributor, EM Nordic, and Jerry Karlsson at Riff Musikk, Oslo, Norway for finalizing the hand-over arrangements with Kenneth. Kenneth’s response,” Wow! Thank you so much for this Zildjian. This ride really fits my need and it kicks a**!”
Miguel Angel Gallego Moreno of Tucson, AZ, picked a 22" K Custom Dark Complex Ride as his winning cymbal, and Joe Lunn of Essex, England chose a pair of 14" K Custom Session HiHats.
Zildjian Sound Lab Cymbal Set-Up Builder is an exciting new social-web community for drummers, where visitors build their own virtual cymbal set ups from a full library of Zildjian cymbal sound files and then share their set ups with friends. Visitors to the Sound Lab may choose from nine drum set ups and build a unique configuration of cymbals or select from a library of pre-set Zildjian artist set-ups. The Sound Lab allows visitors to compare any number of cymbals side-by-side, select cymbals that instantly appear on a kit, and strike individual cymbals to produce up to two different sounds. In addition, visitors are provided with a variety of wallpapers to customize their kits and the option to print out set ups so they may take their cymbal choices to their local dealer. The most exciting feature of Zildjian’s new Sound Lab is the ability to share cymbal set ups with the world through Facebook and Twitter. The Zildjian Sound Lab is built using HTML 5 to ensure its ease of use on many platforms.
Since its launch in October, Z-Club Community Members have built close to 5000 kits! To build your own set-up and join in on the fun, visit The Sound Lab Set-Up Builder
