INTERNATIONAL MAKE MUSIC:
Taking place in 800 cities across 110 countries, Make Music Day is a daylong musical free-for-all celebrating music in all its forms. “Make Music” encourages people of all ages to band together and play in free public concerts, or to just visit a music store and pick up an instrument for the first time.
The world's largest annual music event will be held on the summer solstice—Saturday, June 21st. This international event began in France more than 30 years ago as the Fête de la Musique, and has now become a global phenomenon, with millions of musicians of all styles and skill levels coming out each year to perform for the public. To find an event near you, visit the Make Music Website and click on your local city/country.
MAKE MUSIC USA:
In the US this year, the number of participating cities will double to nearly 20, including the additions of major markets such as Austin, Nashville and Boston. Encompassing thousands of concerts nationwide, celebrations of music will also be taking place in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. A full list of all participating cities can be found at the Make Music Website.
MAKE MUSIC BOSTON:
In Boston, Zildjian, along with Kadence Arts is collaborating with Make Music Boston to sponsor a free outdoor percussion event called "A Jungle of Sound." This special event will consist of 30 scattered Zildjian Cymbals around the Frog Pond and playground in the Boston Common. Artists and spectators will be invited to perform a special piece, written specifically for this event, and incorporating improvisation and live direction. If you’re in the Boston area, visit The Common to witness this spectacular event.
Would you like to play and participate in the Boston event? All you'll need to do is show up at 12:30pm on Saturday, June 21st, and bring a cymbal stand, a pair of sticks, mallets, and brushes, and be open to direction and improvisation! Email Maria Finkelmeier if you'd like to be added to the roster of musicians. All participants will be entered to win a cymbal from Make Music Boston!
