Andy Strachan

The Living End

Andy Strachan fell in love with drums when he was four years old when he heard Bill Haley & the Comets' 'Rock Around the Clock' on his grandparents' old record player. He started playing on a borrowed kit in the hay shed on his farm. Soon after, Andy's Mum and Dad bought him a second hand kit and he was allowed to play in the house! He played along to records after school and joined his first band at age fourteen. The band played Creedence, Elvis and The Beatles etc. Andy started playing and writing original music at sixteen and moved interstate to follow the music dream at nineteen. He played and toured with many bands including Pollyanna and Violetine before joining The Living End in 2002. Outside of music, Andy loves surfing, food and coffee.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Music! I love hearing a new tune that makes me want to hear it again. I love being in my own band, it still blows my mind that we get to do what we do and call it our job.

WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Get your head in the music. Play for the song. Find your place in the band and give energy to those around you.

FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

I'm in love with the K-Series Cymbals. They just seem to work in any situation and are the most musical cymbals for my ears.
