Ernie Severino

Side A

Ernie Severino, aka Swingy to his colleagues, has been playing drums for the Philippines' pop super-band Side A since 1991, receiving multi-platinum records and awards. He played in major symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles and session work for the country's top singers while studying percussion at the University of the Philippines College of Music.

Becoming a Zildjian endorser in 1995 gave him a major boost in his drumming career and continues to inspire and educate through clinics, TV performances and gigs.

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Tony Williams has been my all time source of inspiration ever since I listened to Miles Davis "Four & More" live concert and VSOP (Herbie Hancock). Steve Gadd (Chick Corea), Jack De Johnette (Keith Jarrett) I acquired a similar Sonorlite kit he used on Standards, Jeff Porcaro (Toto), Jun Regalado (Philippines' most recorded) and recently Rey Vinoya (club jazz)

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Drumming is an art and was never a sport.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

K Constantinoples, but I've been searching for the 20" K Orchestra Suspended. Before the endorsements, I missed out on this cymbal in Hong Kong because I had planned to get the entire A Custom Series.
