I began playing Zildjian cymbals in the 7th grade, and still play Zildjian cymbals. During my 20 years in the Navy Band (Washington DC), I played Zildjian cymbals. Why? While cymbal technique is always important, playing on high quality professional instruments is essential. Your œsound"" is everything. Through elementary school, high school, college, 70s rock and roll, military bands, and symphony orchestras, I have found every cymbal sound I need with Zildjian cymbals. A colleague once told me œalways strive for excellence in your playing. I still heed that advice, and still play Zildjian cymbals¦

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

(favorite cymbal) It was given to me by a former colleague decades ago and still has that dark “K” sound (stamp says: K Zildjian & Co, Istanbul, Zildjian). It was made in Turkey in the late ’50’s or ’60’s. I like the way it doesn’t hang exactly level while suspended! (favorite combination) I always like to have just the right selection of cymbals for each performance. For "Lemminkainen Suite No. 2” by Sibelius, I use the following combination: (photo of these cymbals included in additional images).
