Max Kolesne

Krisiun

Max Kolesne is the drummer for the Brazilian death metal trio called Krisiun. He formed Krisiun with his two brothers Alex Camargo (vocal/bass) and Moyses Kolesne (guitars) in 1992.

Influenced by drummers like Bill Ward, Dave Lombardo, Pete Sandoval, Iggor Cavalera, and many other rock, jazz and metal drummers, Max developed his own drumming style, that mainly consists of constant blast beats, with fast double bass and aggressive (Lombard-ish) rolls. Despite being known for his fast straightforward style, Maxs drumming sounds natural and raw, with what he calls, œsome brutal Latin dynamics to it".

Unlike many of the modern metal productions, Krisiun keeps releasing albums that sound increasingly organic and natural.

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

All kinds of art, whatever is made with love and passion, inspires me. Good music with energy and soul always cheers me up and gives me motivation whenever I feel a bit down. Music is everything and has the power to heal the soul and makes you feel stronger. Also my brothers who play with me in Krisun are a huge inspiration for me. They are always there for me, no matter what. I know I can always count on them, and this is such a great lesson of loyalty and inspiration to me.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Always play with passion and try to develop your own personality, no matter what other musicians are doing or how technical and fast they can play. When you have style and passion you will be a happy musician and the fans will appreciate and love you for that.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

21'' Mega Bell Ride, 14'' A Custom HiHats, 20'' A Custom China, 19'' A Custom Crash, 12'' A Custom Splash, 18'' A Custom Medium Crash, 19" A Thin Crash. That's the combination I have been using for a while now, and I couldn't be happier. The music I play is very fast and full of notes, so I try to make sure that the way I play is already mixed before it goes through the soundboard. If someone is sitting next to me while I play, they should hear and understand everything I'm playing. That's why I use the best cymbals in the world. The Zildjian combo I use has the perfect balance between brightness, control and precision. Even on the fastest parts you hear the stick definition on the ride, and the hi-hat is controlled and smooth along with the fast snare and kicks, while the attack on crashes and chinas cut through with incredible precision.
