Independant/Educator

My passion for drumming started after first seeing and hearing local Scottish Rudimental drumming parades when I was 8 years old. I was absolutely trans fixed by the razor-sharp precision of the leading drum line, from that point on I knew one day I would take this drumming caper very seriously. Then from the age of 11 I signed up for Rudimental drum Tuition from my Local Youth Club. Under the watchful and caring tutorials of Senior N.S.W Police band Percussionist, Sgt Lyndsay Chate, I subsequently went on to secure 3 consecutive state-held Rudimental Snare Drum Championships. As the years progressed, I then entered the touring and recording circuit Australia wide, performing with successful Australian independent acts including Massappeal, Killing Time/Mantissa and the Fester Fanatics. My ongoing love to this day is the promotion of kit-applied rudiments and regularly appearing as an educator, conducting workshops throughout Australian schools and retail environments. Without the discovery of rudiments, I may not be where I am today without the wonderfully supportive Australian and international drumming community.

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

After many years of performing and conducting Workshops, the thing that keeps me going to this day is simply "Wanting to better myself" as a drummer. It's not so much about obtaining more chops or speed, it's wanting to better the facilities I already have as a player. As they say' "less is sometimes more"

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

My advice to any younger player starting out is don't be in a rush to get off the practice pad. Be patient and develop your technique as best as you can with the guidance of an experienced Tutor and always "use your ears" If what you play is musical, your career will flourish in all areas.."Oh yeh!" Be nice and be humble.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

The very best combination I've been using for the last 10 years is a combination of my 15 Inch New Beats and my 21 Inch Avedis Sweet Ride. The hats and ride, crash beautifully together and the sticking is always heard over the wash, the other very cool thing is they age so well. I look forward to hanging on to them for decades to come.
