Walmar Paim

Bell Marques / Independent

Inspired by the vibrant popular culture of his hometown, he discovered the power of music through the marching band at his school. He began playing drums in 1990 and from that point on, everything around him changed, leading him to delve deeper into his roots. In Santo Amaro, the city where he was born, there are several unique folkloric movements, but one movement with a unique rhythm in the world, the “Samba-Chula / Samba-de-Roda”, a rhythm marked by clapping, tambourines, atabaques and cymbals played with knives, awakened the need to get involved and take it to the world. The challenge was to translate this mixture to the drums, the result yielded invitations from great names in Brazilian popular music, he performed in special events with two of the greatest exponents of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), but the starting point was through his great master Roberto Mendes, who through his research and compositions, helped in the process of building this “rhythmic translation”. This process led him to the band of the Bahian singer and composer, Margareth Menezes. In 2008, he was invited to join the biggest band of the “Axé Music” movement, Chiclete com Banana. Since 2014, he has accompanied singer Bell Marques, former vocalist of the group, in his solo career in studios and on tours.
