"One of the best drumsticks in my Ziildjin drumstick collection"
"Never bothered to try any new kinds of sticks, but Taylor is my hero so I thought I'd give 'em a whirl. They are perfect for someone like me who has snapped sticks and cymbols plenty of times before. Plan on buying several pairs."
"Please don’t ever discontinue them!! 🙏"
"It comes down to you hands, your technique, and your experience. That's what determines whether a stick works for you or not. Power, speed, grace, control. These are just a few characteristics most drummers hope to find in a stick. For a stick that is slightly shorter than and slight thicker than the 5B, Taylor Hawkins' stick feels nothing like it. The strong shoulder is balanced by taper that gives this stick a tip that plays and feels light, yet it retains a neutral throw/rebound feel. The shaft feels solid playing rim shots, cross-stick, and on the bell of a heavy ride, but the stick never feels heavy or numb (a lot sticks thicker than a 5B can feel like they play "through" drums and cymbals without providing a lot of feel, in my experience). The tips provides a good balance between a thick sound and articulation. Apart from the typical trade-offs you can get with thicker sticks (many of which this stick mitigates (see above)), the drawbacks of this stick are in the details. The somewhat larger flattened ball tip won't be for everyone. If you like a very tight and "firm" tip tapping experience on ghosts notes and when playing the ride, you might not be comfortable with the slightly broad feeling you get from the tip of this stick. While only 1/8" shorter than a standard length stick, you will notice. This is one of the few shorter sticks I've played where the length is an asset, not a hinderance. I believe it is the reason for the stick's neutral throw/rebound balance and why it doesn't feel heavy, despite having a diameter of . 600". I used to favor longer sticks for more reach and that I could choke up on to adjust the balance. In reality, I don't always need extra reach. With the Taylor Hawkins stick, I can choke down toward the butt of the stick if I need a bit more leverage or reach, and I don't find it uncomfortable at all. In fact, I've noticed many times over the years that I naturally grip a stick more toward the butt end anyway. In summary, this is not a perfect drum stick. No stick is. This is an athletic stick in the 5B family that is cleverly designed to achieve a neutral balance and solid feel without feeling heavy. It does lean toward producing more volume behind the kit, and some drummers may struggle with the broader feel the tip provides. This isn't a stick most drummers will find comfortable for jazz, including big band, but it can hold its own in lighter playing far better than a 7A could in heavy playing."
"It has been my go-to for the last 11 years! Those rounded tips just make everything sound awesome and it's got an amazing feel and great durability as well! I hope you guys never stop making these :D"
