  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Spiritual music — especially John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme”. Elvin Jones’ playing. Tribal music. Santeria drumming. Afro-Cuban dance. Ch’an Buddhist meditation. Tai Chi and self-defense practice.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Play and listen as much as you can. Pay attention to the history of American drum set playing. Learn some form of meditation to open your mind, eliminate the self, and improvise in a relaxed and open manner — which is the highest form of playing.

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

My favorite all-around cymbal is the 23" K Custom Special Dry Ride with Rivets.
