Schooled in both Carnatic rhythms and Western Jazz, Sivamani is truly a World Percussionist. He has played world over with the best International artistes such as Billy Cobham, Freddy Santiago, Terry Bozzio, Wil Calhoun, Noel Grant, Mynta & Rikki Ray & is also a part of World music outfits such as the ZAKIR HUSSAIN World Drums Ensemble & SILK, besides his own bands ASIA ELECTRIK & SIRAHA Trio and NEW LIFE. No major film or World tour of multi-Oscar and multi-Grammy winner A R Rahman is complete without Sivas daunting presence.
Siva creates magic with just about anything, from shells to conches to cooking vessels. He is currently endorsing all the leading International brands such as Zildjian, Pearl, Roland, AKG and Remo. Siva started learning from his father Late S M Anandan, and went on to give his first stage performance at the age of 12. His first studio break was playing for South Indian Master Creator K V Mahadevan. By age 13, he had a professional music career under the watchful eyes of legend S P Balasubramaniam.
Siva's earliest experiments have been with Carnatic Maestros K.Vaidyanathan, T V Gopalakrishnan, Valayapatti Subramaniam, Pazhanivel and L. Shankar. His dream came true when he was invited to share the stage with Ustad Zakir Hussain along with Trilok Gurtu - opening up myriad musical possibilities. He later took lessons from great rhythm masters Vikku Vinayakram (Ghatam), T K Murthy (mridangam) and Late Nagarajan (Kanjira) and even took lessons from them.
Siva has been honoured with the prestigious PADMASHREE Award by the Indian Government. He was also invited to conduct a Master Class at the legendary Berklee College of Music, Boston. Sivamani successfully forayed into mainstream film music as a Music Composer in regional films in 2015 & is presently working on his 1st Bollywood film as a Music Composer. Ustaad Zakir Hussain in a live show presented him as a œphenomenon that walks the planet but once or twice in a century.
