I started playing drums at age 10, initially jamming at home with my brother, making up my own simple drum parts to the Johnny Marr guitar riffs hed been learning. I later joined the local youth jazz band, which helped me develop my control and timekeeping as a drummer in a way that manically drumming alone in my bedroom so far hadnt! I was also lucky to have a great drum teacher at school, Phil Marriott, who introduced me to a huge variety of different drummers and styles of drumming, all of which I tried out with my hands on the desk as soon as I got back to class.
From 2019 Ive been playing drums in a band called second thoughts, a group made up of some of my favourite people in the world. We had played a few small shows before the coronavirus lockdown but only had our first headline tour in Autumn 2021, so Ive had quite a steep learning curve in learning to be a touring drummer! Id hope that if you came to watch me play, your main takeaway would be that I was having an excellent time - which would be very true, regardless of the venue or audience (or lack of an audience¦) I love playing drums, especially with a band of such extremely talented lunatics.
