  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

What inspires me most as a musician is the opportunity to share, create, and connect through music. As an educator, I am deeply passionate about the transmission of knowledge and the joy of guiding others toward excellence. Watching students grow, discover their potential, and develop their own artistic voices is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. Teaching is not just about passing on technical skills—it’s about inspiring curiosity, fostering creativity, and building a legacy of passion for music. As a composer, I am driven by the thrill of exploring new musical horizons. The process of crafting new soundscapes, experimenting with rhythmic structures, and expanding the expressive possibilities of percussion is endlessly fascinating. Composition allows me to push boundaries, challenge conventions, and contribute to the evolution of the repertoire, offering performers and audiences alike fresh perspectives and experiences. I am equally inspired by the encounters that music makes possible—collaborating with musicians, engaging with diverse cultures, and exchanging ideas with creators from all walks of life. These connections enrich my perspective and remind me of the universal power of music to bring people together. Whether in the classroom, on stage, or at the writing desk, I am inspired by the power of music to unite people, transcend barriers, and evoke profound emotions. It is this blend of teaching, creating, and meaningful connections that fuels my passion and reminds me every day why I chose this path.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

To the next generation of drummers and percussionists, my advice is simple yet profound: embrace curiosity, discipline, and passion in equal measure. First, never stop learning. Explore every corner of the percussion world—its instruments, styles, and traditions. From classical to contemporary, from global rhythms to experimental techniques, each discovery will enrich your artistry and broaden your perspective. Be open to new ideas and seek inspiration not only from percussion but from all forms of music and art. Second, strive for excellence. Mastery comes from dedication and attention to detail. Develop a strong technical foundation, but remember that technique is a means to an end: serving the music. Practice with intention, listen deeply, and always aim to express something meaningful through your playing. Third, value collaboration and connection. Music is a shared experience, and some of the most rewarding moments come from working with others—whether it’s fellow musicians, composers, or even students. Build relationships, learn from those around you, and contribute to the community with generosity and humility. Finally, don’t be afraid to find your own voice. As percussionists, we have the unique privilege of working with an incredibly diverse palette of sounds and possibilities. Use this to your advantage—experiment, create, and push boundaries. Whether through performance, composition, or teaching, let your individuality shine and leave your mark on the world of percussion. Remember, being a musician is not just about playing notes; it’s about telling stories, inspiring others, and making a difference. Stay curious, stay passionate, and never lose sight of the joy that brought you to music in the first place.
