George MacDonald

Kid Kapichi

Growing up in my town of Hastings I always knew I was born to play the drums. Ever since I was young there have always been events here that fill the streets with drumming and dancing and I would always feel inspired and get stuck in. I started a band pretty much straight away at the age of 13 and was soon gigging around town as much as I possibly could.

I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to play with so many different levels of musician from that young age; hopping up on random sets and learning how to use my ear to wing my way through any gig of any genre. There aren’t many places I've been in the UK that know how to have fully improvised jams & gigs like Hastings and I'm very grateful to have learned my instrument in that context.

I’ve been playing with my main project Kid Kapichi for the best part of 10 years now, I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get over how much fun our shows are. The crowds are beyond insanity and every riff hits like a sledgehammer. Coming to our gig is like going to a rave!

I also perform in the session world having recorded and played drums for, among other artists, Nova Twins on their last 2 albums; which is always a next-level drumming experience.

It’s pleasure and an honour to be part of the Zildjian family and continue their great legacy that’s been going strong for 400 years!

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I love finding new sounds in my environment and creating music from them but ultimately improvising with other musicians and getting the party started is my biggest inspiration!

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

Play with as many people as you can, play gigs, enjoy what it is to be the heartbeat of the band. Don't be hard on yourself if you're not at the level you want to be at, enjoy where you are at and the process of learning more of your instrument!

  • FAVORITE ZILDJIAN CYMBAL/COMBO

My 20" custer crash and 19" sweet crash sing so nice together!
