One day at high school, about 6 years in as a guitarist, a bunch of us decided to start a band. We were chatting about who we might know who could play drums, and I heard myself say out loud "I'll do it". Which was weird, 'cause I never really said much. Or knew how to play drums. But, for some reason, I knew it would work out.
My life as a musician has always progressed in much the same way. Growing up I was the sort to completely obsess over what I loved, and what I loved changed all the time, so I soon gained a basic knowledge of a lot of things, from playing instruments, music theory & history, to technology and recording techniques. So, of course, when I was eventually part of a band who wrote a song that (we thought) was worth recording, I again found myself saying "I'll do it", somehow finding a way to record a band armed with a webcam and a long forgotten version of Windows. Fast forward to now, and I find myself touring and releasing records with my band Coach Party whilst producing and mixing music from my own studio, always learning and loving music as much as I ever have, with a drum kit being my physical and emotional centre of that universe.
