Joao Lencastre is a drummer/composer native from Lisbon, Portugal, and since he started to play the drums, he has been involved in all kinds of projects, from Jazz, to Rock, Metal, Reggae, Punk, Free-Improvisation, Afro-Beat or Electronic. Over 20 years playing professionally, he has played in all major venues and festivals in Portugal and has also toured around the World, playing in many different venues including New York, Czech Republic, England, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Spain, Russia Macau, Amsterdam and Panama.
Lencastre has played and/or recorded with David Binney, Bill Carrothers, Andra Fernandes, Thomas Morgan, Jacob Sacks, Phil Grenadier, Joao Hasselberg & Pedro Branco, Blasted Mechanism, Leo Genovese, Eivind Opsvik, Tiago Bettencourt, among many others. He has released six records with his group Communion, all with great reviews coming out on Modern Drummer, Jazz Times or NYC Jazz Record, just to name a few.
