Liza Holbrook provides the driving groove behind SHEL, a band consisting of four sisters from Fort Collins, Colorado. She is the youngest of the siblings and is credited with creating the infectious rhythms that have garnered rave reviews for SHEL. Liza plays drums, djembe and her inventive beatboxing is the unexpected high point of SHELs live show. She also contributes to SHELs captivating harmonies and songwriting.
At age 6, Liza started playing harp. But her gravitation towards rhythm and her natural abilities on djembe soon left her harp in the dust. The desire for a drum kit became (almost) an obsession, she was surprised by family and friends with her very first kit on her 13th birthday. Shortly after, she became the drummer for SHEL.
Liza and her sisters have toured across the US and Europe mesmerizing audiences with their energized live shows. SHEL is an acronym for their names with Sarah on violin, Hannah on keyboard, Eva on mandolin, Liza on drums, djembe and beatboxing.
A few of her favorite drummers include: John Bonham, Steve Gadd, Chris Guanlao, Carla Azar, Griffin Goldsmith, Vinnie Colaiuta, Cindy Blackman, Eddie Bayers and Nir Z.
