Matt Cameron started playing the drumset at age 9 and was playing gigs in cover bands at age 14 in his hometown of San Diego CA. His main influence as a young musician was Jimi Hendrix. Cameron moved to Seattle, WA in 1983 at age 20, played in many bands, studied music theory, worked day jobs and met lots of unique, talented artists and musicians. He met Chris Cornell, Hiro Yamamoto and Kim Thayil in 1984 when they were playing in a cover band called the Shemps, which later became Soundgarden. Cameron joined Soundgarden in 1986 and recorded 7 studio albums, one ep, one live album, various compilations and numerous world tours. He joined Pearl Jam in 1998 and has recorded 5 studio albums and numerous world tours. Cameron's love for music and drumming stared at a very young age and continues to this day. Music is his life, his religion, his form of communication and he feels very fortunate to be a professional musician.
