Ricky Sebastian

I started playing drums at 5 years old but started taking lessons on snare drum at age 8. I attended the University of Louisiana, Berklee College of Music, and hold a Masters in Music from the University of New Orleans. I've focused on being a versatile drummer and am competent with Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brasilian, Socca, Reggae, R&B, Funk, Fusion, and many other World Music styles. I'm from New Orleans but lived in New York City for 17 years. I've performed, toured, and recorded with Dr. John, John Scofield, Jaco Pastorius, Tania Maria, Herbie Mann, Michael Franks, Harry Belafonte, Donald Harrison Jr., Bill Summers, Nneena Freelon, Larry Coryell, Ellis Marsalis, and Blood Sweat & Tears, among others. I currently teach music at the University of New Orleans, the Heritage School of Music, Jazz Empowers, and Spreading the Music. I am also available for Skype lessons. I have one CD released as a leader entitled "The Spirit Within" and a book entitled "Independence on the Drum Set" published by Hal Leonard.
