Scooter Spicer is a drummer and MD based in Nashville.
His intro to percussion came through the public-school rite of passage of making beats on the desk with pencils. This mostly consisted of Stevie Wonder grooves. Okay, fine - it was Outkast and Gwen Stefani.
After a few trips to the office for disturbing the class, his parents brought home a drum set to redirect this creative energy. Thus began the obsession.
Having brother involved in church music meant multiple services a week, as well as an intro into playback.
His high school and college years were marked by weekend warrior tours with his bands ranging from folk to funk to fusion. In 2007, he and his family created a music camp specifically to teach students how to write, record and play live as a band. This turned into a full-blown store in 2012. Spicer’s Music has been named top 100 Music Store in the World for 9 years in a row. After spending years as an instructor and co-owner, he relocated to Nashville in 2015, seeking more collaboration.
Without any connections in town, he spent every night going to shows and making friends in the community. He cut his teeth writing, recording, booking, tour managing and show-building – open to any opportunity to grow/ connect with fellow musicians. This has led to playing over 100 dates every year since 2015, and building up a catalogue of recorded music. Since 2021 he has invested the most time in the studio and on the road with Ashe, Ben Rector, Jordy Searcy and Stephen Day. Music has led him to 5 continents (the 6th on the books for 2025), and that makes him happy. He told us so.
While he’s worn just about every hat in the industry, he’s mostly known for maximizing adventures in between tours. Spending over a year collectively in South America is his favorite accolade. Feeling deeply inspired by Latin percussion and culture in general, he is always seeking to learn and add new ideas to his collection. Catch him on the road, in the studio, or on the dance floor.
