Kathy Marvin has been a percussion instructor and clinician since 1990. Receiving the Fiske Scholarship, she studied with Terry Smith and Doug Walter at the University of Colorado Boulder and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Business from the University of Colorado Denver.

Kathy is a percussion instructor/clinician at numerous high schools in Colorado. She was the Front Ensemble Caption Head for internationally acclaimed Northglenn High School (Percussion Theatre) for 21 years. In that time, Northglenn earned 19 state titles; WGI Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals; and WGI Fans' Favorite awards in 2010 and 2015. She is currently Percussion Director at Lakewood and Legacy High Schools.

Along with her high school teaching, Kathy has an active private lesson percussion studio.
In 2010, Kathy was inducted into the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association Hall of Fame.

She also enjoys working with her husband Dave on coordinating the Denver Broncos Stampede, the first official NFL drumline. Since 2003, this outstanding group has performed at all Denver Broncos home games as well as at private and corporate functions. In 2015, the group grew into a 30-piece drum and brass band, becoming an integral part in the gameday experience.

Along with the Stampede, Kathy and Dave produce several high-profile percussion groups for their company, Party Crashers, LLC. The group Beauty and the Beats is America's first professional, all-female drumline. Their groups create nonstop energy with unique instrumentation and have quickly changed the entertainment landscape in Colorado and beyond.

Kathy is a proud clinician/marching artist for Yamaha Musical Instruments, Vic Firth, and Zildjian.

  • WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

One source of inspiration for me is simply nature, whether mountains or ocean settings. Could be the calm environment to clear my mind so ideas come through, or the actual environment inspiring creative thoughts, visuals, and sounds. Live music and dance, of all genres, is another source of inspiration. Sounds, grooves, visual presentation, movements, love it all - to take things from multiple sources to create something fresh/new. Lastly, my students and family inspire me every day.

  • WORDS OF WISDOM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION OF DRUMMERS

In a nut shell - do what you love, keep your passion alive, and take care of your mind and body. It's not always easy doing a music career, keep an open mind and know it may take many different plates spinning to make it all work as a career.
