FUYU – Drummer / Producer
Born in Osaka, Japan and raised in New York City, FUYU is a drummer, producer, and musical director whose career bridges two worlds: the raw energy of the U.S. music scene and the creativity of Tokyo’s music culture. His unique background has shaped a sound that is both deeply rooted in groove and rhythm and open to experimentation across genres. Known for his powerful pocket, musical sensitivity, and versatility on stage and in the studio, FUYU has become one of the most in-demand drummers in Japan and beyond.
Since moving to Tokyo over 15 years ago, FUYU has toured and recorded with many of Japan’s most iconic artists, including MISIA, EXILE, ATSUSHI, Red Diamond Dogs, AI, Toshinobu Kubota, JUJU, BENI, Jin Akanishi, Suga Shikao, Kazutoshi Sakurai (Mr.Children), Yellow Bucks, and producer Takeshi Kobayashi. His ability to seamlessly adapt to R&B, pop, rock, and jazz has made him a trusted drummer for both live concerts and studio productions. Internationally, he has collaborated and performed with legendary artists such as Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Take 6, Allure, Allen Hinds, and John Cowherd, further showcasing his global reach and musical versatility.
Beyond his work as a drummer, FUYU is active as a producer and band leader, constantly pushing the boundaries of sound while honoring the traditions of rhythm that shaped him. His New York upbringing gave him a deep appreciation for soul, jazz, gospel, and hip hop, while his years in Tokyo have allowed him to connect with the unique artistry and energy of the Japanese music scene. This dual identity has become his signature, allowing him to deliver performances that combine precision, passion, and cultural depth.
Now as a proud member of the TAMA, Zildjian and EVANS, FUYU continues to expand his creative journey, dedicated to making music that inspires, uplifts, and connects people across cultures and generations.
